LAURA MUIR is grateful to be headed to another world championship after a “brutal” year that left her kicking her heels and wondering when her return would come.

But the Scots star will line up in Tokyo today vowing the 13th major medal of her career isn’t beyond her reach.

The women's 1500 metres heats will be only the fifth time she has competed over this distance this year.

The torn calf sustained in February sent her to the sidelines and created a race against time to be fit and healthy to make the British team.

The Japanese capital, scene of her finest hour in securing Olympic silver in 2021, has a different vibe this time around.
