HANDS clenched behind his back and patrolling the edge of what must be one of the biggest technical areas in world football.

HANLEY:LOOK HUGHES OUR SET-PIECE GURU

There really is no hiding place for Steve Clarke when Scotland are serving up a stinker at the national stadium.

And boy was Thursday a case in point.

It was a lonely looking head coach who looked on as his players struggled to grab any sort of foothold on the park and anxiety levels went through the roof in the stands.

But Clarke knows he has a team that has his back - on and off the park.

After pulling off one of the most remarkable smash and grabs in the history of the national team, Clarke highlighted the character of the troops he's placed his faith in for the vast majority of his six years in charge.

Yet, sitting out of sight, way back behind that monstrous technical area, was a new guy who has sneaked in under the radar and made an almost instant impact.
