Dad meets heroes who saved him as 10,000th device milestone is hit

A DAD who survived a cardiac arrest during a bike ride thanks to a defibrillator has welcomed the registration of the 10,000th device in Scotland.

Jamie Martin, 64, from North Berwick, East Lothian, collapsed while cycling through Gifford in East Lothian in May last year.

He credits his survival to the efforts of his friends and heroic passersby who administered CPR and to the availability of the village defib.

Recalling the terrifying ordeal, father-of-two Jamie said: “We set off at 9.29am and I was dead by 11am. My friends and I had stopped for a coffee and were leaving the village on a notorious hill called Cockles Brae.
