Well boss urges defender to have a pop

MANNY LONGELO has been told by boss Jens Berthel Askou to become Motherwell's have-a-go hero.

The former West Ham defender cracked in his first goal for the club in Tuesday's 2-1 win over Peterhead.

Askou, inset, says Longelo has been given licence to get up the park as a goal threat.

The 24-year-old only played the first half on his first start for the Steelmen but had three attempts on goal.

Longelo, signed from Birmingham on a two-year deal, has been urged by his Danish boss to shoot on sight.

Askou said: "There are some things he needs to improve in his defensive game. But he is athletic, powerful, aggressive and good in one against one.
