Volunteers who make it happen given recognition

THE National Eisteddfod would not be able to be staged without the hundreds of volunteers who give of their time to ensure that the festival runs smoothly, giving an unforgettable experience to competitors and visitors alike.
-
While Eisteddfod officials are very grateful to all of the volunteers, three were rewarded by Gorsedd Cymru by inaugurating them as members.
One of those who received the honour at the first meeting of the Gorsedd at this year’s National Eisteddfod was Keris Jones, from Llantysilio near Llangollen.
Gorsedd Recorder Christine James said it would not be an Eisteddfod without seeing Keris busy volunteering and stewarding.
She added Keris was a huge part of the competitors’ experience and her care of them as they prepared for their preliminary test was a crucial part of the ethos of the festival.
Keris said she considers her inauguration to the Gorsedd an important honour.
“That's not why I volunteer. I volunteer because I want to. I was a steward at the Pagoda for years, people called me Mrs Pagoda, but I’m now at the Studio.
