LIKE father, like son. Field Of Gold traced the career path of his sire Kingman with a St James's Palace Stakes blitz that secured him the title of top three-year-old miler.

The John and Thady Gosden-trained grey, who followed his forebear from 2,000 Guineas defeat to runaway success in the Irish equivalent, locked horns with Newmarket conqueror Ruling Court and Poule d'Essai des Poulains victor Henri Matisse in Tuesday's feature race.

But the argument as to who is the best Guineas winner proved a one-sided one.

Field Of Gold and Colin Keane settled it with a searing change of pace - just as Kingman did 11 years ago - hitting the front two furlongs out to humble Henri Matisse by three and a half lengths with Ruling Court three and three-quarter lengths away in third.
