THE King will pay tribute to the Commonwealth today during a landmark speech in Samoa.
Charles will address foreign ministers at first Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting as the leader of the nations group.
The monarch will say that thanks to its scale and diversity - representing a third of humanity the Commonwealth can "discuss the most challenging issues with openness and respect", and that is never more important than at times of conflict around the world.
In his speech at the meeting's opening ceremony today, the King will say: "Together we are wiser, stronger and more able to respond to the demands of our time." Charles will also pay tribute to his late mother Queen Elizabeth and the role the Commonwealth played in her life.
The King and Queen arrived in Samoa on Wednesday evening for a four-day state visit, and where he will officially open the Commonwealth meeting.
The royal couple were given a full Samoan welcome yesterday, as they both ditched their formal attire to match the relaxed style of the small Pacific island.
