Thousands 'unaware' of suffering lung conditions

THOUSANDS of people may be living with undiagnosed lung conditions due to a lack of national testing targets, a charity has warned.
A survey of 12,000 patients with respiratory issues found more than half were initially treated for symptoms without having the underlying cause investigated.
This is despite recurring coughs and chest infections being a common early warning sign of serious chronic illnesses. One in five of those polled waited over a year for their diagnosis.
The charity Asthma + Lung UK claimed that simple tests needed to confirm conditions such as chronic obstructive pulmonary disease were not always widely available.
