New proximity 'alerts' able to protect victims from abusers

RAPISTS and domestic abusers will be monitored “live” 24/7 and could be arrested if they approach their victims under a huge tagging revamp.
Offenders who go within a certain distance of their victims or their homes will trigger a proximity alert, and probation staff could call them to warn them to back off.
If the offender does not comply, police could be sent to the scene.
Lord Timpson, Minister for Prisons, Probation and Reducing Reoffending, said: “This is the biggest expansion of tagging in British history.
