IF THEY were to conduct another of those Britain's Favourite Sitcom polls, I wonder which comedies would now come out on top.

My guess is, the top performers would include Dad's Army, Fawlty Towers, Only Fools And Horses, Blackadder, The Young Ones, The Office, The Vicar Of Dibley, The Royle Family and Father Ted.

In other words, perennial favourites, either standing the test of time pretty well or failing it but staying funny regardless.

That's not to say there wouldn't be more recent shows as well. There'd be Gavin & Stacey,

BBC, in particular, is in no rush to hold another vote.
