Pulling children's teeth is a 'badge of dishonour' for UK
Daily Express
|February 18, 2026
"HORRIFIC" numbers of children are having their teeth pulled out in hospital for preventable decay, dentists have revealed.
Almost 34,000 children and teenagers had paediatric extractions in 2025, up 11% on 2024.
The total included 21,162 children aged five to nine — making tooth extractions the leading cause of admission for that age group.
Meanwhile, 13,667 youngsters were admitted for acute tonsillitis.
Eddie Crouch, chair of the British Dental Association, said: "These horrific statistics are a badge of dishonour for governments past and present.
"Tooth decay can’t go unchallenged as the number one reason for child hospital admissions.
