Flu and Covid jabs brought forward over new variant

FLU and Covid vaccinations will start three weeks earlier than planned after experts raised the alarm over a highly mutated new variant.
Scientists closely monitoring the BA.2.86 strain, nicknamed Pirola, have identified two cases in this country since August 18. As a result, the UK Health Security Agency recommended jabs be brought forward to September 11 from October 2.
Dame Jenny Harries, UKHSA chief executive, said the change would ensure those who are most vulnerable are protected this winter.
She added: "The potential impact of this particular variant is difficult to estimate. In the meantime, please come forward for the vaccine when you are called."
