Actor Russell Brand charged with rape and sexual assaults

49-year-old faces five allegations over four women

COMEDIAN and actor Russell Brand is facing five sex assault charges including rape against four alleged victims, police have said.

The 49-year-old star is accused of one count each of rape, indecent assault and oral rape and two counts of sexual assault, relating to four separate women.

It comes after detectives launched an investigation in September 2023 having received numerous allegations following a report by Channel 4's Dispatches and The Sunday Times.

Metropolitan Police announced that Brand is charged with the rape of a woman in 1999 in the Bournemouth area and the oral rape and sexual assault of a woman in 2004 in the Westminster area of London.

The married father of two has also been charged with indecently assaulting a woman in 2001 and sexually assaulting another between 2004 and 2005 both allegedly in Westminster, London.

Jaswant Narwal, of the Crown Prosecution Service, said: “We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Russell Brand with a number of sexual offences.
