Driver ran over drunk who spat at girlfriend

A MAN, angry that a drunk stranger tried to use his vehicle as a taxi and spat at his partner, circled back and drove into him, a court has heard.

Jordan Wilden had just stopped his van outside the now closed Bertie O'Flannigan’s bar on Cliff Road in Newquay to wait for his partner when his victim opened the passenger door and got in, asking to be taken to another nightclub because he had been kicked out for being too drunk and making a nuisance of himself.

Wilden told him to get lost, but as his partner came out of the bar and wriggled into the van past the drunken man he spat at her.

It was that which caused Wilden to flip, a sentencing hearing at Truro Crown Court on May 9 was told.
