COUNCIL TO DECIDE ON PLAN TO SCRAP FUNDRAISING TOOL
Burton Mail
|October 28, 2025
COUNCILLORS in East Staffordshire are set to decide on whether to close a community lottery designed to help local good causes.
East Staffordshire Borough Council says declining ticket sales and half of the good causes not receiving any support have prompted the move.
The community lottery was originally set up in July 2023 and gave a free platform for local good causes registered with the lottery to fundraise.
In the first year, 23,478 tickets were sold, which generated a total of £14,154.70 for the local groups.
This continued into year two, however in that time only 19,058 tickets were sold, which raised £11,156.90.
Currently, 60 good causes are registered with the lottery, but 29 do not have any supporters and are not raising funds through the scheme.
