Nature at risk Wildlife trust hits out at plans for homes on green belt

AVON Wildlife Trust has expressed serious concern that development proposals in the North Somerset Local Plan threaten the future of critically important sites for nature.

The charity is objecting to current plans which see more than a quarter of identified housing capacity earmarked for green belt land, posing a huge risk to nature's recovery across the region.

If agreed the Local Plan would result in 25,000 homes being built in the area over the next 15 years.

Leah McNally, chief executive, said: “Avon Wildlife Trust is working with communities, farmers, landowners, and partner organisations to secure nature's recovery across the region.

“We believe that it is possible to have development in harmony with nature, but the draft North Somerset Local Plan does not currently meet this requirement.”
