Harbour ‘Tragedy a stark reminder of need to take extra care on night out’

THE city council has issued a safety plea after the latest “tragic” death at Bristol harbour but stopped short of announcing any new physical measures to keep the public safe.

PC Rehaan Akhtar, 28, was recovered from the water on the morning of November 24 having gone missing during a night out in the city centre.
His death prompted some concerns about the safety of Bristol harbour, with some calling for additional measures such as barriers to protect people from the water.
Bristol City Council has now extended sympathy to PC Ahktar’s family and friends, highlighting the need for caution next to the water particularly for those enjoying the city's nightlife.
