Football Luke: Results will come if we keep building on performances

AFTER Saturday's heartbreaking 1-0 defeat to Notts County, which condemned Bristol Rovers to an eighth consecutive League Two defeat, the Gas bounced back with a penalty shootout victory against Cambridge United to book their place in the last 16 of the Vertu Trophy on Tuesday night.

- Will MURRAY

Rovers goalkeeper Luke Southwood saved two penalties in the shootout after Cambridge came back from 2-0 down at halftime to send the game to spot-kicks.

Despite the performance not being a stellar one, Rovers found a way, and a win was needed to boost confidence after an unjust defeat against the Magpies on Saturday and ahead of tomorrow's FA Cup trip to Port Vale.

Speaking about the performance against Notts County and Darrell Clarke’s message to the players following that disappointing result on Saturday, Southwood said: “I think exactly sort of what you said, obviously, he (Clarke) was frustrated himself, you could tell.

“We were all so frustrated in there because we knew we'd done enough to win that game two or three times over, let alone the one.
