PARENT DID NOT FEEL BOY WAS SAFE IN 'FRAGMENTED' EDUCATION STRUCTURE

- ISABELLE BATES News Reporter

A MUM has revealed her young son has been out of school for two years as she lamented Birmingham City Council's 'fragmented system'.

Empress Shashamane removed her six-year-old son, King Gabriel-Vassell, from school in 2023 after he left the premises without anyone realising.

The mum said he was gone from Oasis Academy Woodview, in Edgbaston, for around 15 minutes, which caused stress to both King and Empress.

She did not believe that her son was safe, and so she decided to find him an educational place elsewhere.

However, due to King's complex needs, including autism, ADHD and sensory processing difficulties, he requires a high level of support.

Empress says that as a result, Birmingham City Council has not been able to find a place for him that the family are happy with. The mum, from Edgbaston, said the whole situation has been "overwhelming".
