Chris plans DOUBLE trouble for defenders!

BLUES’ quest to find new firepower led them to Kyogo Furuhashi and manager Chris Davies is conjuring up ways to pair him with Jay Stansfield.

- By ALEX DICKEN

The arrival of Kyogo from Rennes won't sideline Stansfield, if anything it will take some of the goalscoring burden away from Blues’ record signing and provide the team with an alternative option.

Kyogo scored a staggering 85 times in 165 games during a goal-laden spell at Celtic and Davies is hoping to help the Japan international rediscover his best form in Birmingham.

He told the Birmingham Mail: "If you had said that to me a year ago I would have said absolutely no chance because he was Celtic's striker but we saw an opportunity there with him not quite settling in France and thought could we get him here and he believed in what we are doing.

"I've been encouraged by his sharpness and both-foot finishes but he has only played 30 minutes in a training game and 60 minutes (at Burton), so his fitness is growing steadily."

While Davies didn’t consult directly with long-term mentor and Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, he did have conversations about Kyogo with people behind the scenes at the Old Firm club.
