Fiercely opposed green belt homes are green lit

COUNCIL SAYS HANDS WERE TIED OVER DEVELOPMENTS
A COUNCIL claimed it could not reject plans to build over 1,000 new homes on Solihull's green belt despite fierce opposition from locals.
About 1,200 homes are now expected to be built in separate projects by developers Richborough Homes and Taylor Wimpey off Dog Kennel Lane, near Stratford Road, Shirley.
Residents flooded the council with objections to Richborough's planned 550 homes, saying the green belt should be preserved and that previously developed land should be prioritised for housing.
Others objected to Taylor Wimpey's 700 homes, fearing an influx of new residents would put pressure on local shops and services.
The firm's plan has land set aside for a primary school, a retirement facility and commercial centre and include public space, children's play areas and walking and cycle routes.
