Lawes delays decision on his future until Six Nations

COURTNEY Lawes will make a decision on his Northampton future during the Six Nations window in February.

Lawes announced his retirement from international rugby after the World Cup but is unsure yet where he will be playing his club rugby next season, if at all.

The 34-year-old wants to wait until there is a break in the full-on Premiership schedule before working out his next move.

While it is hard to imagine the loose forward playing for anyone other than Saints, the club he has served man and boy, Lawes points out that, at the end of the day, “money talks”.

“We’ve got a bit of a break through the Six Nations. We’ve got a big chunk of rugby up until then and I just want to see how the body is, how I am feeling mentally. I’ll probably know more by that spot, February-time, when I’ve played a good block of games,” he said.

“By then, offers and whatnot will have probably come in, and I’ll sit down with the Mrs and weigh it all up. But I am not precious over it, if I feel like I don’t want to carry on I will call it a day.
