The mistresses of the malapropism from Oz’s most successful sitcom are getting two specials to mark their 20th anniversary.
KATH & KIM: OUR EFFLUENT LIFE, Monday, November 28, TVNZ 2, 8.55pm
Judged from this side of the Tasman, the title for greatest Australian television sitcom would probably go to The Games (because of John Clarke) or Frontline (because of Bruno Lawrence). But, of course, the title really belongs to Kath & Kim (no New Zealanders involved), a show that turns 20 this year, the anniversary being celebrated with two specials on consecutive nights, which we’re getting a week after they hit Aussie screens.
The first, Kath & Kim: Our Effluent Life, tells us what’s happened to Kath (Jane Turner), Kim (Gina Riley), Kel (Glenn Robbins) Brett (Peter Rowsthorn) and Sharon (Magda Szubanski) in the intervening years at 4 Lagoon Court, Fountain Lakes, Melbourne.

I'm a firestarter
Late spring is bonfire season out here in the sticks. It is the time of year when we rural types - even we half-baked, lily-livered ones who have washed up from the city - set fire to enormous piles of dead wood, felled trees and sundry vegetation that have been building up since last summer, or perhaps even the summer before.
