Satellites High in Space Suggest Changes Deep in Earth

High above us in space are twin satellites dubbed GRACE, for Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment. One pair orbited between 2002 and 2017 before running out of battery power.

A new pair replaced them in 2018. Both pairs were commissioned to study Earth's gravity field, and they've found evidence suggesting a major shift at the core/mantle interface some 1,800 miles below ground that peaked in early 2007.
