My robust ragu combines ground beef, sausage and chicken. Serve it over any type of pasta, or baked or fried polenta. It's even good on its own with a slice of hot buttered garlic bread.

2 medium onions, coarsely chopped

2 celery ribs, coarsely chopped

1 medium carrot, coarsely chopped

4 garlic cloves, peeled

2 Tbsp. olive oil

1 Tbsp. butter

¼ tsp. ground nutmeg

1 lb. ground beef

¾ tsp. salt

½ tsp. pepper

1½ lbs. bulk Italian sausage

1 cup dry white wine

1 can (14½ oz.) beef broth

½ lb. boneless skinless chicken breasts
