Reminiscent of award-winning ITV drama Mr Bates Vs the Post Office, new Netflix series Toxic Town dramatises one of the UK's biggest environmental scandals, which saw devastating limb defects in babies born in the Northamptonshire steel town of Corby during the 1990s.

Written and created by This Is England and His Dark Materials writer Jack Thorne, the compelling four-part series stars Doctor Who's Jodie Whittaker as tough yet fragile Susan McIntyre, who's left blaming herself when her son, Connor, is born with no fingers on his left hand. But as Connor suffers a series of painful operations, Susan begins to twig that his condition isn't an isolated case, and she is eventually compelled to take on what becomes a fight for justice over several years.
