'BEING A MOTHER MADE IT MORE EMOTIONAL'

Elisabeth Moss tells why having her first child gave her a new perspective on The Handmaid's Tale as she filmed the finale of the hit dystopian drama

Fans of The Handmaid's Tale are accustomed to watching Elisabeth Moss in a maternal role, but for the Emmy Award-winning actress, becoming a parent in real life has been a completely new experience – one that has made the latest season of the popular show even more meaningful.

The star, who quietly welcomed her first child last year, is back on screens as June Osborne in the sixth and final season of the hit drama, and says that giving birth has provided her with a new perspective on the role.

"It made it even more emotional, for sure," says Elisabeth, 42, who has not revealed the baby's gender, name or father.

"Playing June and being a mother myself for the first time made it more visceral and more meaningful than ever before. There were a lot of things that I was able to draw on because of that."

The series is an adaptation of Margaret Atwood's classic novel, set in a dystopian future.
