LAST BROCKMOBILE UP FOR GRABS
Unique Cars
|Issue 510
THE LAST ‘official’ Brock-HDT built model, the Holden VL Commodore Group A SS Plus Pack is going to market ‘unreserved’ at Donington Auctions upcoming, ‘Collector Car & Number Plate Auction, commencing October 10.
-
Developed for homologation of Holden's VL-model Commodore for international Group A Touring Car racing, the Group A SS turned out to be the last such model officially produced by Peter Brock’s HDT Special Vehicles.
Launched in November 1986 for the following season's racing, the requisite 500 examples of the Commodore SS Group A were produced by Brock’s HDT Special Vehicles operation, all of them in identical ‘Permanent Red.
Under the bonnet, the 4.9-litre (to fit under the category's displacement cap) Holden V8 got a Rochester 4-barrel carburettor, a port-matched inlet manifold and cylinder heads, a race-tuned exhaust system, and a BorgWarner five-speed manual gearbox with heavy-duty clutch.
The limited-slip differential was also a BorgWarner unit, while the four-disc braking system was upgraded with venting up front and increased master cylinder bore, while the suspension was tuned with Bilstein gas shock absorbers.
Initially unbeknown to Holden, 173 of these homologation cars were fitted with Brock’s controversial ‘Energy Polarizer’ - those fitted were designated ‘Plus Pack.
