Actor Jenny Agutter on her refreshing approach to physical appearance, dieting and why she has never been tempted by surgery

‘Day to day, I don't worry about MAKE-UP!'

For more than five decades, Jenny Agutter has been gracing our screens, appearing in everything from The Railway Children to The Avengers. But these days Jenny, 69, is perhaps more fondly known as Sister Julienne in the BBC1 drama Call the Midwife, a role she’s played since the programme began in 2012.

As she approaches 10 years playing Sister Julienne, Jenny confesses that she never expected to be in a role for so long, saying, ‘I do take each year as it comes and I never saw myself staying in a job for a long period of time. I think because every year brings something so different, and I still don’t know what Sister Julienne is really about – she’s unfathomable in many ways and not like me!’

And there’s no denying the huge success of Call the Midwife, which regularly pulls in millions of viewers eager for their dose of East London in the 1950s and 60s.
