When it was announced that Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes were to be replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary as the Friday presenting team on This Morning, Ruth’s Loose Women co-host Gloria Hunniford confirmed that even Ruth and Eamonn were shocked and ‘disappointed’ to be sidelined to provide holiday cover only. She said, ‘I think they find it very difficult to understand why the change.’

However, putting on a united front, Eamonn, 61, and Ruth, 60, shared identical tweets, saying, ‘It’s a changing of the guard on Fridays from January. We hope you make Alison and Dermot as welcome as you’ve made us over the years. Have a Ball you two! It’s not Goodbye from us, it’s simply Au Revoir until the next half term [sic].’
