‘I’M SO PROUD OF ALL WE’VE ACHIEVED’

Kelly, 41, says: Returning home from work as a teaching assistant, I logged on to the Facebook group page for my Weight Watchers coach Marsha. It wasn’t just her images of delicious, healthy meals that tempted me; there was another tasty dish: Phil, a fellow member. We’d never met – we went on different days – but we’d started liking each other’s posts and were soon exchanging messages. Then in December 2013, Phil finally asked me on a date. 

I’d always been slim and active, but in 2012 I was injured in a car crash. I couldn’t exercise, and struggled with housework and cooking. Depressed, I fell into the habit of slumping on the sofa after work with a bottle of wine. Before I knew it, I’d gained 2st in as many months. I joined Weight Watchers to get back in shape; by the time Phil asked me out, most of the excess weight was gone. 

Having been single for six years, I was nervous on our first date in an Italian restaurant, but we really clicked.
