We’re more than happy to share photos when we get engaged or married – but celebrity baby bump photos have drawn criticism

Are Photos Like This Insensitive?

In a world where we celebrate all our achievements online, like graduation, birthdays, engagements and weddings, surely the news of a baby, or a picture of the expectant mother, is something to be celebrated too? Myleene Klass isn’t the first celeb to share a pregnancy picture – she follows a long list of stars who’ve done the same including Beyoncé, Abbey Clancy and Anne Hathaway – yet she’s faced criticism. Many claim Myleene, who recently gave birth to her third child, was being insensitive to those struggling to conceive or who have lost babies. Are these snaps far more upsetting than intended? Or should they simply be seen as a celebration of life? Woman investigates...

Hilary Freeman, 48, lives in London with her partner, Mickael, and their four-year-old daughter, Sidonie.

Even though I endured several pregnancy losses, including a deeply traumatic stillbirth at 24 weeks, I have no problem with celebrities or anyone else showing off their baby bump on social media. Vain? Maybe. But insensitive? No. Why shouldn’t a woman be allowed to celebrate her beautiful pregnant body, just because other women aren’t so fortunate?
