Innovative wearable technologies can be a solution for many a healthcare problem. These devices are used for both patient and disease management, and their applications can help in making a clinical decision
In the past few years, wearable technology has advanced tremendously. Wearable technologies are enabling us to continuously monitor physical activities and behavior. The technology is also monitoring physiological and biochemical parameters during daily life.
Commonly, wearable devices used to measure data include vital signs such as heart rate, blood pressure, and body temperature, as well as blood oxygen saturation, posture, and physical activities. The advanced wearables can be attached to shoes, eyeglasses, earrings, clothing, gloves, and watches.
In more advanced implementations, a sensor can be added inside the human body and embedded into the environment, such as chairs, car seats and mattresses. All these devices are typically connected to a smartphone to collect data and transmit it to a remote server for storage and further analysis.
Internet of Health Things (IoHT): The connected world
The Internet of Things (IoT) redefines wearable tech. When medical wearables are connected to the Internet, they collect essential data which could be life-saving. Additionally, they provide insight into symptoms and trends of any particular physiological or even psychological disorder.
Now being known as the Internet of Health Things (IoHT), where medical devices involve machine-to-machine (M2M) communication and connectivity to a cloud platform through which data generated by devices gets captured, stored, and analyzed.
According to MarketsandMarkets “The overall wearable AI market is projected to reach USD 42.4 billion by 2023, from USD 11.5 billion in 2018, growing at a CAGR of 29.75% during that period.”
