SALE put the disappointment of their near-miss last season firmly behind them with an impressive opening win at home to Leicester Lions.
After their agonising defeat to Old Elthamians in the National Two North v South play-off, Sale have made no bones about their title ambitions.
The Lions, who finished in third spot last season, have their own promotion ambitions to fulfil and will be happy to have got this game out of the way. Defeat may not have been the ideal start, but with 29 matches to go there is still much rugby to be played.
Following an early penalty from Jonathan Boden for the visitors, Sale were soon into their stride, a break by Luke James and a kick through opening the way for Aaron Reed to collect and go over for the opening score. Chris Johnson added the conversion.
