CSIA: Giving Wings To India's Growth Story

Not only the second busiest in the country, Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is also one of the most challenging airports to operate anywhere in the world. Managing 980 take-offs and landings in a given day, the airport recorded a number that any other single-runway airport anywhere in the world has ever managed in a 24-hour period.

India is today the world’s third-largest economy. Its ascendance, in purchasing power parity terms, to a top-three placing has been fuelled by breakneck economic growth. Projected to reclaim the mantle of the world’s fastest-growing major economy at the end of the current fiscal year, this rapid pace of the economy’s expansion has also fuelled an aviation revolution.

By all accounts, India’s aviation sector is thriving. Rising disposable incomes, a widening middle-class and cut-throat competition among a healthy field of airlines is enabling more Indians than ever before to take to the skies.
