When it comes to conservation and global warming, private jets are an important part of the process as well as solution. During the World Economic Forum, there were headlines all across media that talked about billionaires, CEOs, celebrities and environmentalists, reaching Sicily in their private jets for the seventh annual ‘summer camp’ hosted by Google, an event the focus of which this year was ironically ‘sustainability’. This hypocrisy was widely criticised.
Further, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, recently attracted criticism for their use of private jets, as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex took their son Archie Mountbatten-Windsor to Ibiza and Nice in July. This, while Prince William and Kate Middleton were spotted with their three children on a scheduled budget airline flight. While the use of transport in the Royal Family’s private time, as opposed to official royal tours, is not funded by the public purse, questions have arisen over the ecological impact of chartering private flights.
