Joe Pesci, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino share the screen in Martin Scorsese's epic new mob drama

PARTNERS IN CRIME

The Irishman

From Wednesday 27 Nov, Netflix

Put Hollywood legends

Martin Scorsese, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino together and the resulting movie is bound to be special.

That’s certainly the case with real-life gangster drama The Irishman, an epic tale of loyalty and friendship, violence and betrayal, which spans six decades, runs almost three-and-a-half hours, and also sees Joe Pesci and Harvey Keitel reunite with director Scorsese.

CRIMINAL ACTIVITY

In the Netflix movie, De Niro plays the title character, Frank Sheeran, a World War Two veteran who reflects on his life as a hitman and enforcer after he starts working for Mob boss Russell Bufalino (Pesci).

As Sheeran gains Bufalino’s trust and friendship, he is recommended as a bodyguard to Jimmy Hoffa (Pacino), the charismatic and corrupt head of America’s biggest labour union, the Teamsters.

But when Hoffa is released from prison, after serving time for fraud, he falls out with his Mafia associates and threatens to blow the whistle – a dispute that quickly tests Sheeran’s allegiances to the core…
