- Anisha Gakhar

The 5G Insurgence

The metamorphosis of video distribution is underway. 2019 marked the advent of 5G; broadcasters began launching services and consumers became more aware. 5G was on course to add nearly US$2.2 trillion to the global economy between 2024 and 2034 and to account for 20% of all global connections by 2025. Today, Rise 5G of has indeed become a reality and is starting to be deployed at large.

The 5G network, which is defined by a set of global wireless standards, has been specifically designed to enable higher speed without sacrificing quality. According to Ericsson’s June 2020 Mobility Report, 45 percent of the world’s mobile data traffic will be carried by 5G networks by 2025.

In a global survey, conducted on behalf of Nevion, 82% of broadcasters believe that cellular networks like 5G will eventually replace traditional broadcast distribution such as DTT and satellite as the preferred way to access TV content, with over a third (37%) of these respondents expecting this to begin happening within 1 to 2 years.

WHAT’S IN STORE?

5G technology, along with promising ten twenty times faster connectivity than 4G, also facilitates more users to simultaneously interact, thus, enriching user experience. It also makes sure remote locations get higher quality video. Al in all, 5G is bringing in a new wave in every arena—from personalised services to superior outside broadcast.
