Joint victory for Ross and Walker
Horse & Hound
|September 23, 2021
Two of the biggest names in showing further cement their places in the record books by making supreme history
JAYNE ROSS (Temple Ogue) and Robert Walker (Patrics Choice) made history when they became the first joint supreme winners in a BSHA hunter championship show finale. In the Binks Family overall supreme of show, both combinations performed at the very top of their game for judges Mathew Lawrence, Ellen Walton and Ian Smeeth, showing off their best party moves – complete with a few extra flourishes.
Robert, drawn fourth of the seven finalists forward, concluded by cracking his hunting whip to demonstrate Classic Supreme champion “Pat’s” steadiness, while Jayne countered this on Kay Campbell’s Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) section victor “Verdi” with a sweeping walk to begin and a rock-solid halt after a rousing gallop to conclude.
But, in a break from tradition, instead of a ride-off, both were asked to walk away from the judges and trot back. This again produced equal scores so to the delight of an enthusiastic ringside audience, a tie was declared. Both horses are bidding for their first HOYS win.
