Unlike in the past where its use was limited to bridge building, tools and armaments, a large quantity of steel is used today to keep pace with heightened design aspirations; to conquer new architectural horizons. Sri Lanka is no exception. Steel is being explored in every possible way, in every trade, resulting in huge quantities of the material being imported, largely from South Africa, China and India.
Combining sleek geometry that gives rise to a lively ambience and technology that promotes energy conservation, Architect Upendra Rajapaksha’s innovative project is truly a building of the future.
Located away from the congested town centre of Dambulla, this distinctive bus terminal is spread out unobtrusively against a mountainous backdrop of an ancient heritage site.
