Black and white stripes. They are even. They are easy to live with. This is the mantra that Shanth Fernando often voices. And it has been this inclination and a strong penchant for nostalgia that have defined his life’s work.
Three separate houses, designed for extended families with different requirements, are being built around a central court. Together they will compose the small urban nucleus that is the motif of the entire project.
An interesting experiment by 59 Italian photographers in the earthquake-devastated area of L’Aquila uses photography as an essential tool of survey, a key to rebuilding. One of the initiative’s promoters, Alessandra Chemollo, gives us a premier overview of its approach and development.
