High Performance teams comprise individuals who come together to convert to reality an important objective of the organization through their motivation, commitment, collaboration, drive and unity of purpose. These ‘High Performance’ teams chart the way the world thinks, communicates and connects!

In Donald J Bodwells words, High Performance Teams are highly adaptive, difficult to build, expensive to maintain and glorious to behold. While the journey to high performance is an ongoing one, this issue of
Perfect Professional takes you behind the scenes to bring clarity and understanding into what constitutes high performing teams, what works and what doesn’t. We seek to answer fundamental questions of whether ‘teamwork’ is something that we are naturally tuned into or does it need to be consciously developed. Is the term ‘High Performance Team’ explicitly defined and understood or is it still an implied phenomenon? Are organizations making them a priority? We attempt to decode some of these mysteries and look at what organizations and individuals can do, to create and sustain high performing teams. Lone geniuses are out.

Collaboration is in. Today, most of us work in teams, in offices without cubicles, and in organizations where people skills are prized above all. The organization, the leadership team and HR-each has their own role to play in creating and nurturing high performing teams. This is the focus in our theme based articles.

We have taken examples of high performing teams from the corporate world as well as the world of sports and medicine. Also featured are pointers for managing ‘High Performance Virtual Teams’. Our interviews have captured two interesting perspectives of High performing teams, one that focuses on Self-Managed Teams and the other on a team that strives to come together to fight disease and death
