Mega Food Parks- A GRADUAL TAKE-OFF

Although with the Mega Food Park scheme of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries (MoFPI) has hit the right track, it has taken 10 years to get 4 mega food parks fully functional and 8 more are yet to undergo completion. A total of 42 Mega Food Parks have been sanctioned by MoFPI in six phases. The maximum number of food parks have been allocated to north India (12), followed by south (11), east (10), central (6) and west (3). But this only marks 30 per cent of the target assigned. Seventy per cent of the mega food parks is still to see the light. Upon assuming office as minister of food processing industries, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, revised the target for the operationalisation of all 42 mega food parks to 2018. But this was followed by a delay by another year, and now the ministry expects all of them to be up and running by 2020.
