We’ve been waiting for ages to see what the new Ineos Grenadier would look like – and now at last we have. The pictures have already been shared to death on social media – but what’s the actual story behind them?
The answer is in this month’s issue of 4x4. While everyone else was going on about how much the Grenadier looks like an old Defender, we’ve been analysing the pictures for clues about what you’ll be able to expect from it off-road. The answer is that beyond the hype, there’s a lot to get excited about here…
Also worth getting excited about is the 25th anniversary of the Green Lane Association, because without it there probably wouldn’t be any green lanes left. And there are some very exciting vehicles featured in 4x4 this month too.
The Lamborghini LM002 is a legend of a machine, for one. In the days before SUVs were a thing, far less performance SUVs, it was the V12 Countach-engined equivalent of today’s Urus – only in a body that bore more of a resemblance to a Hummer. We’ve got the story of an LM002 that’s just been restored for the sort of money which, when it was new, could probably have bought you an entire Cotswold village.
Talking of wild Italian SUVs, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is our reigning Performance 4x4 of the Year. But how does this snarling petrol-powered beast compare with the new breed of fast 4x4s – in the shape of the all-electric Jaguar I-Pace? Finding the answer was a lot of fun…
