Worried about getting older? Don't panic – here's what can help stop the clock
-

A ton of energy, great skin and a clean bill of health are things most of us would like to hold on to for as long as possible. But the reality is that beyond midlife, our bodies can become less efficient. Want to not be blighted by illness or visible signs of ageing? Try these tips and easy wins to change the way you age, in a week!
Monday
MAKE A PLANT-RICH MEAL PLAN
Eat meat every day? Going veggie several times a week could extend your life, says research. 'A plant-rich diet is anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and feeds the gut microbiome – factors in immune resilience, heart health and reducing disease risk,' says GP Dr Mohammed Enayat of longevity clinic HUM2N. 'Limiting processed and red meats also protects against inflammation and diseases such as cancer.'
Start with a 'meat-free Monday' and plan other meal switches throughout the week.
Tuesday
GET MOVING
Exercise not only keeps you trim, it can slow down the biological ageing process. 'Regular movement protects heart, muscle and bone health, all of which are vital as we age,' says Dr Enayat. Those in their 70s who had kept active for decades were in equivalent cardiovascular shape to people in their 40s, found one study.
To improve longevity, Dr Enayat suggests strength exercises with weights to help prevent frailty and HIIT (high-intensity interval training) workouts to boost metabolism and cell function - search for free sessions on YouTube. Even 10 minutes of brisk walking daily can add a year to your life, say researchers at the University of Leicester.
