Sense of humour is a funny thing. I've seen this novel described as hilarious, but didn't find myself engaging with it like that at all. Rather than funny, I found it insightful, interesting and sometimes infuriating. Very Impressive for Your Age is a story about success versus ordinary life and what people want versus what they need.

Evelyn's on track to major international success as an opera star. Until one evening, mid-performance, her voice fails her for no reason at all. Evelyn can speak but she's lost the ability to sing. It doesn't matter what she tries, nothing makes any difference.
