RAIN'S A JOY FOR MACHIN

JOYEUX MACHIN Given the dry Summer/Autumn that we have had, you would expect there to be an absolute deluge of rain at some point through November. This will certainly please Venetia Williams as she will undoubtedly come into her own at the back end of the month but it will also suit this fellow who has hinted at landing a decent pot in the past.

A once classy novice hurdler for Paul Nolan, he has since reinvented himself with the Dan Skelton yard as a 3m soft ground hurdler. I was surprised to see him out on quick ground at Chepstow recently but that suggests the Skelton team are perhaps getting him ready for a decent early season handicap. He ran well given the conditions but something like the old Fixed Brush Hurdle at Haydock would definitely be right up his street providing they get the necessary rain beforehand and given the way that race is contested, he could have a nice weight.

SUPREMELY WEST - Very similar comments apply to this fellow who has recently moved to the Skelton yard. A useful hurdler and soft ground lover for Dr Richard Newland in recent seasons, he has always threatened to take out a big hurdle race in the depths of Winter on his preferred surface. He hasn't been seen yet this season but I think a prep run will be likely before a tilt at the same race at Haydock that I mentioned before. Dan Skelton does like to have a few runners in the race and these two horses would be high on my list of likely winners if they both turned up on soft ground.
