Pigeon steps
Retro Gamer
|Issue 272
Am I the only person on the planet who isn't massively excited about the Switch 2? It's a rhetorical question. I know I am. I don't know what has happened with this current generation of consoles, but they feel like they're pigeon-stepping forwards. I've got a PS5 - someone very kind gifted it to me - but there's still so little to play on it that really justifies the hardware.
Aaaaand... I'm not yet seeing anything from the Switch 2 that is convincing me that I need to fork out hundreds of pounds to upgrade.
I used to get SO excited when new hardware was launched, and I don't think that was just the innocence of youth. Those generational leaps were really about the new types of games we'd be able to play on the new hardware - games that we'd never previously had access to. At least, not in our own homes.

The Bat Man of Best Buy
There was a time, before online preorders, when a console launch felt like a holiday. You circled the date on the calendar, started saving up your money and cleared your schedule as if the whole thing was a proper vacation. And back then, scarcity wasn't much of a concern. As long as you had a retailer nearby and some patience, you had a fair shot. Then came the Flippers.
