I recently became rather excited when the headline “Carmageddon time in Harlow” appeared on a local news website. Finally, lawless vehicular slaughter comes to my neighbourhood! Unfortunately, clicking through to the article revealed the disappointing truth — a road between the train station and town centre was being closed, as part of a seemingly endless programme of roadworks that has my home town poised to replace Tiptree as the jam capital of Essex.
