A LATE-NIGHT swimmer sparked a significant emergency response on Thursday.

Police, the coastguard, an RNLI lifeboat and a rescue helicopter were dispatched to the scene near Conwy bridge following reports of a person in the water.

But after an hour-long search it was established the individual had safely left the water on their own.

‘A spokesman for the coastguard described the incident as a “false alarm” and said crews were stood down at 9.25pm.
